Snapd backport?
AFAI can see snapd is on the version 2.37 (2.40 is the latest). Since snapd gets better every release it would be awesome to backport new versions to buster (and also stretch maybe). Unfortunately only way to get it updated is installing Debian unstable which is not cool. Any guide?

Debian Installer Warning!
I'm new to Linux - never used any distro before - but I have been trying out Debian from a live USB (KDE iso. with non-free drivers) for the past few days. However, when I try to install it on this laptop, the installer says,
This computer does not satisfy some of the recommended requirements for installing Debian 10. Installation can continue, but some features might be disabled.
It doesn't specify what requirements. Can I proceed with the installation or some hardware may not work?

Is there a tutorial on how to submit my own package?
I would like to distribute my open source app in debian repo so that it can be installed with apt-get. Is there a tutorial for that? I know I have to do something with mentors, but guides I found so far are totally confusing. Thanks

Is trim enabled by default on NVME drives?
Hello, I've installed debian buster on a computer with a Toshiba NVME but I don't know if it trims the drive automatically. fstrim.timer is disabled on systemD services and when I run
hdparm -I /dev/nvme0 |grep TRIM
I have an error :
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Is it enabled?

Should I really never install Ubuntu .deb's on Debian?
There is a .deb package I'm interested in but it's advertised as for Ubuntu. In a VM environment, I tried installing it with apt
while pointing to a local file. It automatically handled dependencies and it seems to work OK. So, if I read carefully what packages it wants to remove before confirming (current version didn't want to remove any), and I have only "stable" repositories enabled, am I safe using it?

Debian 10 buster: unable to access a samba share - "Access is Denied"
Hi.
I have installed Debian 10 buster on a Pi, and I want to be able to access my MagicMirror dir from my windows PC to change config files.
I have installed samba and cifs utilities, and it also looks like I have the pi user.
smb.conf:
[MagicMirror] path = /home/pi/MagicMirror browsable = yes read only = no guest ok = no valid users = pi
I find the "MagicMirror" folder, but when I try to open it says "Access is Denied"

So, how to fix?

Troubleshooting hard locks with Ryzen 3000
CPU: Ryzen 3700X
Motherboard: ASRock X370 Taichi - latest BIOS
GPU: Radeon RX 590
I'm experiencing random hard locks (sometimes reboots) every ~2 to 5 hours. Windows 10 is stable. It happens whether or not the system is under load, and my CPU temperature never goes above 47 with the side panels off. journalctl -f shows nothing happening before the lock. Where should I start to troubleshoot this?

Why installing Debian takes so long???
I am not a professional IT person. But somehow I regularly install OSs. nowadays only Linux but in the past also macOS.
Why does the Debian install always takes the longest?? Compared with Linux mint or PureOS - both are Debian derivatives.
I appreciate you taking time to answer this. Thanks

Grub refuses to boot
Yesterday, I have installed my first Linux distro ever : Debian stable. I choosed to install it with an usb key with an ISO image on it. I took the graphic installation and it was pretty easy and went pretty good. The only thing I have done manually during the installation was the partitions. I choosed a dual boot, so I created a root partition, a home partition, a RAM partition and a FAT 32 partition, to be able to exchange files with my windows installation. Then, I installed GRUB on one of my disk and finished the installation casually.
As I rebooted my computer (ASUS, latest windows 8 with UEFI/aptio boot), he booted casually. I am relieved, beccause my computer was still working and my files were not corrupted. I was also desappointed beccause after several reboot, grub did not boot and was not a boot option in the UEFI boot. I have disabled secure boot and fast boot before the installation.
So I went on the internet, saw that some people had the same problem and solved it by entering this in an admin shell on windows : bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\debian\grubx64.efi. So I wrote it in it, the shell told me it was successful. So I restarted it, but Grub is still not booting. I am pretty sure Grub has been installed, but I don't manage to boot it, so what should I do?
Last question : during the installation, I created a super-user password and a regular user. I wrote the super-user password, but in my excitation, I forgot to note the user password (yep, it sucks). Knowing I have not boot Debian on this computer ever and I have the super-user password, is there a way for me to change my password without knowing it and without unlocking Debian?
Thank you for your answers!

"Making process" of Debian GNU/k*BSD
I knew there were some ports of Debian with *BSD kernels (and I even had used kFreeBSD as a Desktop OS for a few months). But, I wonder why I can't find how developers compiled and combined "FreeBSD Kernel" with "GNU Userspace". I did a lot of search and I couldn't find any reliable documents on this topic.
P.S : As far as I know, BSD systems are way too monolithic and everything in a BSD system comes with a big and full package of codes (I mean the kernel and user space and other tools the raw system need). What makes me wonder in case of kbsd, is how they just grabbed "kernel" from that large amount of code.
P.S.S : I know LFS gives me a lot of information on making a GNU system, but it's like any other well-known GNU distribution, depending on Linux kernel. I just want to know how this is possible with a BSD kernel/system.

WiFi adapter help
Anyone willing to guide me? I got it working last night, so I got excited and rebooted, and never got it to work since. It's a tp-link model: tl-wn725n(us) ver 3.8
Lsusb shows it. "ip a" shows the interface. I installed network-manager-gnome and that shows the connections around me. And it says I connect but I can't ping Google or anything. Any ideas?

Searching backports, "apt search" equivalent
I use "apt search" to search for packages on Buster frequently, but don't know of an equivalent command to search backports. Anybody know of one?
Sorry for not RTFM well enough.

Debian Testing Kernel 5.2 does not load signed
Hi all,
I regularly update Debian Testing (bullseye) on multiple computers. Yesterday something broke when kernel update from 4.19 to 5.2 arrived. Could you please help me to troubleshoot it?
On computer without UEFI secure boot everything works just fine and I can load DKMS ZFS module. On a computer with secure boot enabled I can’t load ZFS kernel module that is signed using my own key that was enrolled into UEFI using mokutil
.
- I can check that the key was loaded from UEFI during boot
- I can check that all module *.ko are signed (I use script to sign them)
- It works after I disable Secure Boot (but this is not a solution)
I haven't filed a bug since I assume that this is not a bug. A lot of things happened between kernel 4.19 and 5.2 but after spending whole day searching for a solution and I'm unable to find one.
Boot log with 4.19.0-5-amd64

Debian 10 Install Boots to Black Screen
I have been troubleshooting my Debian 10 install for the past few days and can't figure out why the desktop environment won't load. Debian 9 worked perfectly on my laptop but Debian 10 doesn't work for some reason. During the installer on Debian 9, I noticed the scaling is correct for 1080p, but on the Debian 10 installer, it is stretched out. When I normally boot, there is a black screen with no cursor, and when I boot with nomodeset, there is a blinking cursor. I have tried installing firmware-linux already. I have tried installing other distros (Ubuntu, Manjaro, Arch all work fine). I am running an Intel Celeron N3160 (Braswell) with built in graphics and 4GB RAM (DDR4). I have no idea why my computer refuses to boot so any help will be greatly appreciated.

connect to wifi issues
I am using Sancloud Beaglebone Enhanced with debian 9.9, I am trying to get connected to wifi in the room, it was 2 wifi available as shown in the scan in the photo below(the same thing with wlan0):
My problem that when I connect to the first wifi (cell 01) it works good, but when I try to connect to the 2nd wifi (cell 02), always doesn't work.
Does anyone one have an idea why it doesn't work with the cell 02 ?

What do the removal of Python 2 and QT4 from Bullseye from the perspective of the end user?
The purge of QT4 and Python has begun in Bullseye. What will this mean for ordinary users (non developer)?
